Yorkshire Dales
We're planning to head off to the Dales camping this weekend (the kids are getting very excited about it) - look out for the major thunderstorms that I'm sure will now be getting ready to bombard North Yorkshire on Saturday and Sunday...
It's ages since I've been up there, which considering what a major part the Dales played in my life for so long (because of caving) is not a good thing. I just love it up there - the limestone scenery is very special and beautiful to me, the flora is varied and fascinating (wild thyme in the grass, such an evocative smell), and of course there are the caves. One of my favourite things is to stand on top of Ingleborough on a fine day and look at the geology and hydrology laid out before me, and think about how I know this hill so well because I know it inside and out.
