Running

Out for 13.5 km (8 and a bit miles) at 1100.

I'm trying something new, now that I have the heart rate monitor. Dr Phil Maffetone claims that the way to run fitter and faster is actually to run slower for a base-building period. So today I ran at a heart rate of 140 beats per minute or less - and boy, is that slow! When I got home my legs were feeling pretty tired from running that slow (strange but true, running really slow is as hard as running really fast) so I had my first ever ice bath. Fifteen minutes sitting in bath of cold water and ice cubes. Apparently this helps reduce muscle swelling and tenderness. I have it on good authority that it works, but it does feel very strange when you get out... we'll see.
