Poor old boy!
Max just came hammering in through the cat flap soaked through completely with muddy water - a sadder sight (or, let's be honest, a funnier one) I haven't seen for a long time.
Following the water trail back shows that he must have fallen in the stream that feeds the village pond - whether he was trying to catch a Moorhen and misjudged it, or whether he was having an altercation with Mowser, we can't tell.
He's washing up now, while Milly is eyeing him with great suspicion because he doesn't look or smell at all right.
At least I managed to shut any doors leading to rooms with soft furnishings before he got too far into the house...
