Self-medication

As a rule I don't drink mid-week (legacy of a father who slipped into alcoholism courtesy of one drink at lunchtime, another to relax when he got home from work, rinse and repeat). But this evening? A beer is most definitely called for...

(And fried chicken is totally a healthy meal choice if you serve it with a selection of lightly-steamed vegetables, right??)

Moderation in all things, and beer is absolutely the correct beverage for the occasional fried chicken dinner. Serving vegetables with it is a good thing, since you're feeding your children as well. No need to go overboard and actually eat those vegetables yourself, mind you.

It's totally okay to show your kids that a bit of self-care (and even self-coddling) is warranted when one is having a s*cktastic day. A beer and fried chicken? That's healthy self-care.
