Back from skiing

Drove 726 miles yesterday, from La Plagne in the French Alps to home. A long way. Bit tired today, and lots to catch up on.

Holiday was good, good company, good food, and a sufficiency of alcohol. DH enjoyed his skiing, DS absolutely loved it and ended the week by skiing easy blues with DH, and DD will probably be the best of the lot of them in the end (although at the moment she can't see the point in learning to stop - as far as she was concerned the big red inflateable barrier at the bottom of the Jardin des Enfants was obviously designed to stop one in an interestingly bouncy manner, so why not use it?).

I had another go at skiing to see if I'd at least be able to take DS onto the nursery slopes in the afternoons. I skiied for about 30 minutes, then lost control and crashed off the bottom of the nursery slope right into a shop window. Luckily the window didn't break, but I took all the skin off my left knee and was unable to bend it for 3 days (the things I do for my kids...).

I am obviously not meant to ski. Really not. And my so-called 'friends' found my predicament very amusing. B*st*rds. If only I didn't like them all so much :-)

Sunrise from our chalet - the valley was full of cloud, and we were just above it all day.

Welcome home!

The skiing adventures made me laugh. Well, not your poor knee - yeowch! But your daredevil DD (which makes her DDDD, come to think of it) just cracks me up.

And, wow, what a lovely sunrise. The valley looks like a snowy lake, at first. Thanks for this.

Welcome back!

Stunning pics. Sounds like you had a good time (despite yourself!).

I just poked in to say "welcome home" but that SUNRISE!

You took my breath away, Azz. This is the piece of beauty that will get me though the rough spots today. Thank you.

Oh. And WELCOME HOME!!! I missed you. *pets your sore knee gently* I really dislike skiing, too, and eveying thinks I should love it! So frustrating.

I haven't been skiing since I've lived somewhere with real mountains to ski on. I did some skiing in school. We would go to the ski bumps they had in Michigan. We would always go to the smaller ones because they were cheep. They didn't have anything more advanced that a tow rope. Anyway, they taught you to stop because the bunny hill ended at the lodge. As you demonstrated, they give you a reason to learn to stop. I never crashed into it, but I did deliberately fall to avoid hitting it.
