He is so alert and bright-eyed (and possibly bushy-tailed too). Makes me want to scoop him up and nuzzle him.

Which, as I have discovered, would have been a REALLY bad move.

Because when a kitten is elephant hunting (or rather, hunting Elephant), he is a Fearsome Predator and therefore Not To Be Cuddled.

Only once Elephant (a now rather battered and floppy individual) has been pounced on, tossed in the air a couple of times, totally subdued, and then carried off to some dark corner for more mauling and chewing, can a kitten even consider being scooped up and snuggled :-)
