British words

Merriam-Webster's two top ten lists of favourite British words made me smile (List 1 and List 2).

I use most of these regularly, except for dogsbody, shambolic and boffin, which I use occasionally, and jiggery-pokery and chunter which I use almost never.

Isn't language a wonderful thing?

Prat
Twee
Knackered
Jiggery-pokery
Plonk
Chunter (not to be confused with 'chunder'!)
Whinge
Gormless
Boffin
Pukka

Dodgy
Shirty
Chuffed
Peckish
Stroppy
Dogsbody
Shambolic
Wonky
Bollocks
Hard cheese

Brit English is all the love. All the love. I am very very protective of it. *protects it*

I don't think I've ever used pukka, but I do use all the others - although with a tendency towards shambolical rather than shambolic :)

I absolutely love the word "dodgy" and I'm almost ashamed to admit to using the word "wanker" to describe my new boss on occasion--and I'm not even British :)

Not just chuffed, I was brought up to say "chuffed to little mint balls"!

I never use chunter and don't actually know what it is, and I don't use pukka, because I can't stand it (thanks, Jamie Oliver...) The rest? All the bleeding time! Plus

thingamy
doodah
chav

and, since I live in Scotland, the ubiquitous

wee (not to be mixed up with "wee" as in pee)
ned

We have a small community named Wankers Corner. It used to contain a bar by the same name, but the bar has moved into town.
