Eiger dreams...
Jul. 24th, 2003 11:54 amPicked up a walking guide to the Bernese Oberland the other day, to get some ideas for when we’re on holiday. It looks like there’s a fair bit of stuff we’ll be able to do with the kids (using cable cars etc to get up high, then hiking once we’re up there). There’s also a day hike described as an Alpine classic (with fantastic views of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau) that I’ve earmarked for a solo day out. Can’t wait.... I just hope we get some reasonable weather while we’re there, it’d be desperately frustrating to be camped just under the Eiger and not be able to see it!
Last time we went, we drove up to Grindelwald when the cloud was down, found the campsite, pitched the tent and went to bed, without really knowing where we were. It was amazing to wake up in the morning, stick my head out of the tent, and find myself staring straight up at the Eiger Nordwand in all its glory.
Can't wait to get back into the mountains.
