On the menu tonight...
Aug. 18th, 2006 11:30 amTonight's dinner:
Starter: fresh tomato salad, made with juicy beefsteak tomatoes from our greenhouse.
Main course: potato and smoked bacon dauphinoise, made with potatoes dug with my own fair hands, accompanied by a selection of fresh garden vegetables (an attempt to make inroads on the courgette/French bean/chard glut we're currently experiencing).
Dessert: fresh strawberries (sadly not from our garden) with vanilla ice cream.
All washed down with a bottle of Entre Deux Mers kindly donated by the friends who borrowed our house for a couple of nights while we were away.
I love this time of year when the garden is so rich in produce - I still get a kick out of going out there and picking a trugful of our own grown vegetables, even after doing it for so many years.
And for the first time we have peaches! Ripe and golden and sun-warmed, delicious :-)
