Terminology

I use the term 'pitching' for that point when the snow is just beginning to settle (e.g. "the snow is just starting to pitch"). It's the word I've always used, ever since I was a child. Until I left home it never occurred to me that it wasn't in general usage.
My darling husband (born in Reading, raised in Derbyshire) is firmly convinced that I made it up. Or at least that my family did.
An old schoolfriend (now living in Germany) has just used the term in a Facebook post. So it's not just me!
(Dictionary says it's a South West dialect term. So there, DH!)
