Reasons to be cheerful today:
  1. Joaquin Phoenix. Because I watched Buffalo Soldiers last night and I could do perverted things with that man. Seriously.
  2. Poetry. In particular Maddy Prior’s musical treatment of G.K. Chesterton’s The Rolling English Road. For some reason it’s brought me particular joy this morning, maybe because it’s gray and damp and the words have reminded me of summer days spent wandering country lanes - verges full of lacy cow parsley, and hedgerows swathed in the delicate pink of dog roses.
  3. My new flat screen computer monitor here at work. No more bluescreen and flicker. Just crispness and clarity. Joy unbounded in the office.
  4. Installation of shiny new kitchen is underway.

I always loved the line from Ode to Autumn: 'Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness..' It just conjured up such a lovely mental image and it has never left me. I first read that when I was about nine.

Joaquin Phoenix. Didn't think he was too lustworthy in Gladiator or Signs, but I saw him when he was a lot younger in (damn, can't think of the name of the movie) something with Nicole Kidman where they bump off her husband. Phoenix played a trailer trash dopehead teenager who becomes her lover. The movie wasn't very good, but his acting was excellent - and he was very very sexy.

Re 1: with you all the way. "Quills"... *melts*

Re 2: I'll have a look out for that as I need more folky stuff in my collection. Have you heard Robin Williamson's Skirting the River Road? A collection of Whitman, Blake and Vaughan pieces set to music. It's not all my cup of tea but some of it is absolutely glorious.

Re 3: I've just been given a new monitor that bows at the top and flares at the bottom. Grrr. They won't give me back my old one.

Re 4: shiny new kitchens are always fun!

Sitting here bored to tears yet with too much to do.

I'll have to give the Robin Williamson a try.

And being bored to tears yet with too much to do? I know it well... *looks guiltily around the office*

I'm suffering from Panic-Induced Apathy. Too much to do, too little time, too little inclination. And the boss is coming back from his business trip a day early. Yikes.

1. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible--and was the only good reason to watch "Signs". Must see Quills and Buffalo Soldiers now.

2. Which of Maddy's CD's is that poem on? I adore her voice, though right now I'm in the midst of a June Tabor kick.

3. & 4. I'm jealous. ;-)
