It's not where it should be.

And it's not where it used to be.

Which means that at some dim-and-distant time, for some long-forgotten reason, I put it somewhere safe.

So now Money Must Be Spent to replace it.

*gah*

Hate that. And inevitably as soon as Money Is Spent and the item has been rendered unreturnable, the original item will be located.

Of course.

I've turned the house upside down looking for it, so I'll be fascinated to see where it's actually got to.

Would that really be this disconcerting? ;)

No, he keeps turning up again, however hard I try.

The lost item is a pair of child's purple waterproof trousers.

URGH.

Been there, done that. Have the duplicate items sitting here to prove it.

Although having two staplers for two children has come in handy, once in a while.

Just a thought: could the pants have been left behind on your last adventure trip elsewhere? France, was it? I know *I* have a tendency to occasionally leave behind outerwear in exotic locations, but you're more organized than I am.

And then you'll lose the replacement, then find all five copies all at the same time.
