What's in a name?
Sep. 25th, 2003 11:50 amWhen I got married I didn't take DH's surname, I kept my own. (I like my name, and I was becoming his wife, not his possession. The kids have his surname, and that's fine by me.)
Nobody has any problem with this except my mother. For some reason she refuses to accept my decision, and keeps writing me cheques for birthdays/Xmas/whatever made out to a person who doesn't exist. I can't pay them into any of my bank or building society accounts, because none of them carry this name because it's not mine. She says I should change one account so that I can pay the cheques in. I say why should I go to the trouble of changing things just because she won't do me the courtesy of respecting my decision.
We're not falling out over it (life's too short), but it bugs the hell out of me every time she does it. *gritted teeth*
