Ever had it happen that someone famous dies and for some reason you don’t hear about it? Then weeks later someone mentions it, and it comes as a complete surprise?

This happened to me yesterday. I picked up the Sunday newspaper sports supplement and there was an article about the decline and death of the Italian cyclist Marco Pantani, who died while we were skiing so I completely missed that it had happened.

A squalid and lonely death (apparently drug-related) for a man who was one of the true greats, an incredible and gifted climber in his prime, a winner of the Giro and the Tour. One of cycling’s great characters, but one who in the end was broken by the pressures of fame and of needing to perform.

Such a sad waste.

The Lush World Piece bath ballistic turns the water a deeply beautiful colour, but does not dye your skin blue.

Enthusiastic experimentation by keen young researchers has proved this beyond doubt.

Unfortunately the investigative process completely scuppered my plans for a long lazy soak’n’read session. In future I must remember to harden my heart, lock the bathroom door, and remain oblivious to pathetic pleading coming from the landing.

A nice thing happened yesterday. Mid-morning there came a knock at my door, and there on the doorstep was one of my fellow members of Red Watch. He’d been visiting a friend in the area, and thought he’d come and look me up. So we had a cuppa and a reminisce. A very happy-making little episode :-)

Apparently ROTK will be out on DVD in May - a darn sight quicker than the theatrical versions of the previous two films.

EE will still not be out until late in the year, but at least we'll have something to tide us over :-)

*rejoices*

It was Colour Sunday at DS's rugby club yesterday, which basically means he got awarded a badge to put on his kit to show that he's played for the club this season. He was dead chuffed about it, bless him.

Then we went home and watched France thrash Wales in the Six Nations rugby.

The French players wear a far more figure-hugging strip than the Welsh ones.

Just an observation.
