College course tonight, theoretically the last session of the year.
I’m not very happy at all with the way the whole thing has been run.
Apparently last year the same course (but run by a different tutor) won an award for being so good, innovative etc. It wouldn’t have won any awards this year, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend that particular college to anyone, let alone the course, based on this performance.
I’m writing all this in a letter to the college management. I feel let down - I’ve worked hard but I might as well have done it all by myself as pay for tuition and facilities that are just not up to scratch.

- Our first tutor was clearly not up to the job, and a lot of people (two thirds of the class) got frustrated and fed up, and left. (To be fair to her, I don’t think she had the backup she needed from the college.) Given that we’ve all paid money for this, I don’t think that’s good enough. Then that tutor left, and no one had properly briefed our new tutor about what we were doing or had done.
- We missed two sessions because of snow and because of the tutor being sick. We were promised that these would be rescheduled - they haven’t been, and our new tutor hasn’t been told about this by the college. So tonight is our last scheduled class, and most of us haven’t finished our third project. I might manage to finish it tonight, but certainly not to my satisfaction.
- As far as I can tell, no one has ever assessed our first project. The week we were due to hand it in was the week the old tutor left, and the new tutor had no idea what he was supposed to be doing or what our brief had been. I worked very hard on that project, and I feel it was good work.
- A lot of the time the printers in the classroom haven’t been working. As we’re using programmes that most of us don’t have access to at home (for instance, I have Photoshop at home but not Quark) we can’t print our project work out at home, we need to be able to do so at college.
