I remember hearing that in Sharpe, but I can't recall the circumstances (although I have a feeling that it related to him and/or the men under his command somehow)...
I guess I'm really wondering about what fandoms the newer people on my flist have dabbled in. A lot of my old friends are originally from Age of Sail fandoms such as POTC and Master and Commander, and so they'd probably know Sharpe,as might any LOTR folks because of Sean Bean.
I adore the Sharpe series, even though, to be honest, it's pretty spectacularly cheestastic in many respects. But. BEAN! I'd watch a lot worse stuff to see Bean in a nice tight uniform. *g* Not to mention the Chosen Man and all the amazing guest stars
I have the box set of all the episodes... I could watch Sean Bean in those tight breeches for a *very* long time before it would start to get old... *g*
Oh, agreed! Watching Bean *never* gets old. I do have some problems with the scripts and the production on some of the eps, but Bean? Hell yeah.I wrote an essay for idol_reflection on Richard Sharpe. It's here, if you care to see.
And I have all of the original eps, plus Sharpe's Challenge. I don't yet have Sharpe's Peril. Back in the LoTR days I pestered the local Borders store until they got them all in stock and then scooped them up like Gollum with his Precious. :D
Oh yeah! I love the Sharpe movies. Have them all ... :) Also read most of the books. Same goes for Horatio Hornblower. Too bad they are not making any more of those. I watched those and then made my way over to Sharpe and his Riflemen. And then of course Master & Commander. Beautiful film! The movie also got me to read the books.
Same here for the Sharpe movies and the books. I've never seen the Hornblower series, I've only read the books. I've also read all the Master and Commander books, and loved the film. It was one of the things that sent me to sea in the first place, and got me started on my current love of sailing, so I have something extra to thank it for :)

Oh dear, now you've got me started... Gonna have to go rewatch a few eps.
