[Poll #1790425]

Personally, I'm fussy about my bananas. And my monkeys.

You missed banana sandwiches off! I'm pretty sure I'm not the only weirdo that eats those?

I have to admit that banana sandwiches are so far outside my realm of personal acceptability that they didn't even cross my mind...

I've just checked around the desk here and the opinion is on par with the great Marmite debate - half the team love them, the other half pulled a "Eeeewwww!" face :-)

I interpreted banana cake kind of loosely to cover banana bread - it's a quickbread which is more like cake than, say, sandwich bread, so I figured that would count.

But my favorite use for ripe (i.e. brownish-yellow) bananas is to make 'ice cream' with them. Slice, freeze until solid, blitz with a spoonful of milk and a drop of vanilla extract until consistency is like soft-serve ice-cream. YUM!

Bananas are *bought* when they are greenish-yellow. They are *eaten* when they are yellow with a few brown freckles. These are the RULES.

Bananas are fundamentally too sweet and bland for my taste, but are good when mixed with slightly sour yoghurt and excellent on Bad Tummy Days.

Yes. This!

No, no, you've both got wrong - bananas are bought green and eaten as soon as you can get the skins off without too much trouble. Once they start to develop even the slightest hint of brown speckling then they are only good for making into banana muffins or slicing, dousing in cream, brown sugar and allspice, and baking in the oven...

EXACTLY! Although I never had baked bananas, it sounds good!

HEY! If you end up going to Hawaii, they have apple bananas! BUY THEM. The riper they are, the better they are. Like those pinkish Mexican plantains, they never lose that slightly-tart unripe-banana flavor. Incredible. *kisses fingertips*

Williams bananas (which really should turn up on the show, they're tiny like the apple kind and would make for some good ribald banter) are about the same size, but they taste like regular bananas and get overripe when they're yellow. :P

I like a green banana, but I CAN'T STAND anything 'banana flavoured'. Yuk.

I do NOT care for bananas. They are Estel's favorite fruit. I'll eat a spicy, moist, nut-filled banana bread if it's there, and actually enjoy it. Most of my banana intake is purely medicinal -- I *do* find that bananas cure my occasional problems with exercise-induced leg cramping. I teeter on the edge of potassium deficiency and bananas tend to solve that for me in a highly-bioavailable way. I'd rather eat a banana than be in pain, but honestly, I'd rather NOT eat a banana.

I love bananas and banana things (but TOTALLY with the people who loathe banana-flavoured items). Unfortunately, they tend to make me sick. I can eat a small amount, say half a nananana whooshed up in a smoothie, but eating a whole, raw fruit puts me out of action for a while with severe pain and nausea.

Same with avocadoes :( Life is not fair.

Banana and avocado? Are you sensitive to chestnuts as well? All three of those have been implicated as signifiers in Latex Allergy (http://www.aafp.org/afp/980101ap/reddy.html), which is important to mention if you need surgery. Just something to keep in mind!

Don't know about chestnuts as I hated them when I last ate them a few years ago. I'm not aware of any problems with latex itself, though, and I'm fine with other foods on the linked list, though, and don't have any of the irritation symptoms. It's just a (literal) pain!

Oh, good! (if one can say "good" about a health issue that causes pain!?!?) It sounds as if you the "other kind" of allergy, the one that generally doesn't result in anaphylaxis response. Skin rashes and breathing difficulties after eating a substance are big warning signs of the scary-danger sort of allergy. Of course, it's no fun to have reasonable foods cause bellyaches! But at least a banana won't kill you unexpectedly, unless lodged in your windpipe! (But how do you defend yourself from an assailant with a raspberry? Or a pointéd stick?)

I hate bananas (and their apparent partner in crime, strawberries) but I am rather fond of monkeys. Just not baboons so much. Or proboscis monkeys because HI, FREAKS OF NATURE. (Okay, I have issues with large noses, too. Shush.)

Once the little tinge of green is gone from the ends, they are husband fodder.
