Yeah, ditto that. I very nearly didn't go to see FOTR, because how could any film do justice to the beauty of Tolkien. Like you, been a fan of the books since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Yeah, and I was just thinking of how much I hated FOTR the first time I saw it. I must dig up the first review I wrote of it and post it in my journal. Needless to say, I changed my mind ... :)
